Religion is something that everyone has and is the basic thing in our life and our identity too. The modern civilization that we saw in our daily life is just decades old. In reality, people who lived centuries ago were used to do many horrifying and brutal things in the name of religion. Many of the rituals may performed in today’s world even when they are strictly illegal because of their cruciality. So, lets get into those ceremonies to feel and understand them.

1) The burning statue: -

This ritual is on the top of the list because the pain which is given to the men/women in this ritual is on the top of every other pain. This ritual was very popular in ancient Rome. This ritual was performed either for those people who convicted kind of crime or for those who are nominated to the sacrifices for better future of the city. In this ritual, a human like huge statue made up of woods and grass was placed on any open ground. After that, people who are selected for this ritual pushed inside this statue. Once all the people were inside this statue, soldiers put fire inside this statue and let those people burned alive in that statue. This ritual is performed in today’s world too, but instead of people, small statues made from grass and wood are filled inside that huge statue. This ritual is performed in black rock desert of Nevada.

2) Buried Alive: -

This ritual was also very crucial in its time, as it sounds, in this ritual people were used to buried alive as a punishment or for religious believes. This culture was very popular in Ancient Egypt. In the amazing time of ancient dynasty, dead people of royal families were buried under the ground with their alive servants. In that time Royal Families were used to think that servants will serve the member of the royal family even after his/her death. This kind of ritual is known as retainer sacrifice.

3) Sati

This kind of ritual was so much curtailing that people used to fear from giving their daughters for marriage. In this ceremony, the widow was used to burned alive on her husband’s pyre. And this ritual become more and more brutal because people throw a widow in pyre of her husband even if she doesn’t want to do that. This ritual was used to performed in India. This ritual was banned on 4th December 1829.

4) Self-flagellation

Self-flagellation, also known as self-impalement, is a ritual in which people used to hurt themselves to purify their souls and to convince god to forgive their sins of their life. This kind of bizarre ceremony took place even in today’s modern civilization, there are thousands of people who come on street on one particular day every year and hit themselves with chains, blades, spikes and also make holes through their cheeks and tongue for purification of soul. This kind of ceremony took placed by Christians on the good Friday and also by Shi’a Sect of Islam community in Pakistan, Iraq, and Lebanon during the holy month of Muharram.

5) Rape Conversion

This kind of ritual is performed by the terrorists who wants to convert people’s religion by hook or by crook. In their point of view, when they rape any woman, that woman becomes the part of their religion and now every child that she gave birth to is also going to be of the same religion as they have. That’s how they grow their popularity and population of their religion. These kinds of believes can be seen in Syria and other Islamic states that have terrorist links.
